John Mayer Makes His Musical Move
John Mayer Makes His Musical Move

... known to orchestrate swooning laid-back rhythms blended with electric and percussive flourishes, adding lyrics that chronicle different discoveries on love, relationships and identity. It’s obvious that he is treating his music with a more experimental approach (we hear there will be a number of collaborations in this album). The first four songs, which were produced by the same team behind 2009’s “Continuum,” offers variety in musicality and allows Mayer to yet again flex his versatility as a singer and composer. The album is introduced by “Moving On and Getting Over,” which has the funkiest groove in Mayer’s discography, with a punchy yet smooth rhythm. Each word from its hook was haltingly sung, a sound inspired by the sound of a CD skip. Mayer sings “but I still can’t seem to get you off my mind,” in a stop-start motion before he busts out into a soulful ad-lib and the sensual percussive sounds jump back on the track. This upbeat, reverb-laden masterpiece easily ends up as a new John Mayer favorite. “Changing” ...

John Mayer, Discwoman, Brian Puspos And More
John Mayer, Discwoman, Brian Puspos And More

... this spring. — Mikael Wood. Discwoman, “Physically Sick” (Allergy Season). There were a lot of signs about bodies under assault at the women’s marches across the country on Saturday. Maybe a 42-track mixtape of sometimes punishing, sometimes engrossing techno is a temporary balm. The New York-based DJ and promotion crew Discwoman uncorked its most audacious release just before the inauguration (and alongside their own D. C. protest party). It corrals dozens of friends and like-minded peers in a full-body dry heave of body-movers and squelchy, middle-finger experiments. Also dig the faux-prescription album art, which proves that dry-as-hell humor and radical politics are all part of the same cure. — August Brown. Brian Puspos, “Slow Love and Bangin’” (CXSHXNLY). Forgive us for only just now discovering Brian Puspos. For years the dancer and choreographer has been posting You Tube videos of smooth, acoustic R&B and rap covers (along with his slick dance videos), but our introduction to the “America’s Best Dance Crew” finalist is courtesy of his debut EP, “Slow Love and Bangin.’” Released through CXSHXNLY, the Koreatown-based music collective of ...

Every John Mayer Single, Ranked

... first showed off his falsetto abilities with his third and final Room for Squares single, foreshadowing what was to come on Heavier Things vocally as well as what was to come throughout the rest of his career musically. 5. "Who Says". Although this Battle Studies track has a guitar rhythm reminiscent of Continuum's "Stop This Train," it has melodical nuances that not only make it one of Mayer's standouts, but also one of his most boppable, without really having much of a hook. 4. "Gravity". Once dubbed by Mayer as "the most important song I've ever written," he sings about making sure you don't lose your way even when it feels like life is working against you. If the lyrics aren't enough to have an effect on you, the musingly slow tempo of "Gravity" and Mayer's heartfelt, soulful singing certainly should. 3. "Free Fallin'". This may not be a Mayer original, but it may as well be (it has nearly three times as many Spotify streams as Tom Petty 's ...

... group The Wave, at the left. (Photo: Comedy Central). "This is a safe haven for free speech,” Ross warned the crowd this week at a  taping of Saturday's episode. "Nothing is off limits.". And so vulgar one-liners were delivered, even to the guests seated at the judges table. (Well, mostly to Mayer; the only dig about Silverman — that she's all too familiar with "horse-face jokes" — came from her). “In college, I would listen to your live recordings,” comedian Matthew Broussard told Mayer. What did he learn? That "you can be funny, while staying true to yourself as a cocky, pretentious douchebag.” The audience on the Sunset Strip howled at the joke. Comedian Joe Dosch asked Mayer,  “Don’t you have to go sing for a pair of Ugg boots?”. Mayer laughed at the digs, and had a few witty retorts. When Ross asked why ...

I Know When To 'shut The Hell Up
I Know When To 'shut The Hell Up

... And so that’s how I’m able to sit there and not feel like ‘uh-oh.’”. As for the "uh-oh," Mayer himself was inevitably roasted with a couple of jabs about his famous love life, including, "John Mayer, you've had so many hits… Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry…" from Matthew Broussard, and seconds into the show, host Brian Moses taunts, "John Mayer, what are you doing here, don't you have to go sing to a pair of Ugg boots or something?" Referring to his hit touring band Dead & Company, a Grateful Dead revival with Mayer on the mic (and guitar of course). PHOTOS: John Mayer's Famous Girlfriends. Mayer, however, handled himself ever so gracefully during the taping, and when asked about the comments, he explained how he's skillfully mastered the art of "shutting the hell up.". "Oh I know how to wake up tomorrow morning and not have a headache! I still have to wake up tomorrow morning ...

John Mayer Is Back And Better Than Ever On New Album
John Mayer Is Back And Better Than Ever On New Album

... with less percussion than usual. From the start, it is clear that Mayer is back. He begins the first track, "Moving On and Getting Older"with one of his classic guitar solos before transitioning into a more groovy style. This track also uses laid-back percussion, and a lack of percussion altogether, to its advantage. There are points in the song when the percussion drops out entirely and the bass emphasizes the lyrics, giving room for Mayer's vocals to shine. The second track on the album, "Changing,"  takes a hard look at how each of us continues to change and grow regardless of where we are in our lives. It also presents elements of some of Mayer's more recent work, like the sharp percussion, making it flow well on the album. "Love On the Weekend," the third song, is, for the most part, forgetful. It's a pop song that tries too hard to be a folk song, something that doesn't work with Mayer's falsetto. While the song itself is not very good, it doesn't take away from the EP as a whole. Finally, Mayer closes the first set of songs from his new album with a moving ballad dedicated to ...

... or not, Mayer and Swift’s romance was arguably his biggest tabloid relationship to date. They only dated from 2009 to 2010, which is the usual average amount of time he spends in a relationship, as you can see from this article. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mayer addressed the “Dear John” rumors saying it was “a really lousy thing for her to do.”. Swift responded in an interview with Glamour , saying, “How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about.”. This relationship seems like it didn’t end as well as any of his others. In fact, Mayer got in trouble for some Twitter comments he made on Swift’s most recent birthday. According to the story , he had to delete the mean tweet.
