A name in neon lights: Boogie Nights. “I’m a star. I am a big, bright, shining star.” If you hear those words and don’t immediately think of Mark Wahlberg’s gigantic member, there is work to be done. A defining film of the 1990 s, Paul Thomas Anderson’s exhaustive epic of the porno industry finds miraculous humanity brewing under those chintzy sets, atrocious polyester suits, and nonstop sex scenes. It’s also one of most swaggering movies in recent memory, with plunging cameras and a relentless pacing, so it’s immensely pleasurable to watch. When you’re done, parse through Grantland’s equally exhaustive oral history. Available January 1. Beatrice dies again: A Series of Unfortunate Events. ... actor will play the role of Count Olaf, who will make life of the Baudelaire kids difficult. However, Neil Patrick Harris fans need not worry about his sudden change in role as  Count Olaf  will be a lukewarm protagonist as well. His character as the guardian of the Baudelaire children will also give him a chance to be a slight protagonist. Think of it as a darker version of Gru in "Despicable Me" kind of relationship with the foster kids. The extravagant costumes of Count Olaf will also entail Neil Patrick Harris to go through a lot of costume changes and  prosthetics. The scheming, evil ways of Count Olaf attempting to steal the fortune of the Baudelaire will be one of the main storylines of the Netflix adaptation. Jim Carrey was the first actor to get dibs on Count Olaf's role in "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" movie in 2004. Fans of Neil Patrick Harris are confident that the 43-year old actor will be a great Count Olaf in "ASOUE" 2017 adaptation. "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" air date is set on January 13, 2017 on Netflix. The designated air date seems to coincide with the theme of the show as it is ...

How Netflix's 'series Of Unfortunate Events' Outshines The 2004 Film

... we were initially skeptical of Harris' casting, his version of the books' chief villain is much more dynamic, and creepier than the straight buffoon presented by Carrey in the film. Olaf may don hilarious costumes, he may say stupid things and put on funny voices, but he is, inherently, a very scary man trying to kidnap children. He's still funny, obviously, and Harris has the right brand of comedic chops to pull off the various sides of the villain. The format. 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events'. (Photo: Joe Lederer, Netflix). The novels were shorter than other famous children's tomes (looking at you, Harry Potter), which is possibly why the film adaptation decided to tell the story of the first three books, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room and The Wide Window, over its 108 minute run-time. The show takes a distinctly ...

A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Finale Recap
A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Finale Recap

... optimistic Phil. Despite Violet’s attempts to heed her father’s advice to never trust an optimist or optometrist (more on that later), it seems as though some of that optimism starts rubbing off on her. She thinks they’ve finally found a home where Count Olaf won’t be able to find them. (I’m sorry to say she’s very wrong.). The orphans’ first day as workers at the mill gets off to a dreadful start because the new foreman shoves Klaus and steps on his glasses. (Un)luckily, there’s an optometrist — Dr. Georgina Orwell — in town who works in the menacing eye-shaped building that resembles Olaf’s haunting ankle tattoo. Oh, and here’s a very un-fun fact: Dr. Orwell is Count Olaf’s ex-girlfriend, and when Olaf arrives in town, she jumps at the opportunity to team up with him and destroy the orphan’s lives. Orwell and Olaf have a weird, twisted, and somewhat antagonist relationship ...

A Series Of Unfortunate Events Finally Gets The Adaptation It Deserves
A Series Of Unfortunate Events Finally Gets The Adaptation It Deserves

... the pace of the books, but it was a faithful adaptation that for the most part was true in spirit to the pages. It had the right Edward Gorey -via-steampunk look that captured the feeling that the story could be taking place in Victorian England or coastal New England in the 1930 s. It was funny and Jim Carrey did a good job of making Count Olaf half-silly and half-menacing. It was supposed to turn into a franchise, but a sequel never panned out. The thing is, the movie had a troubled path to the screen. Mega-produer Scott Rudin set up the production and Addams Family director Barry Sonnenfeld was supposed to direct from a screenplay written by Handler. But Rudin left the project after budget disputes with the studio, and Sonnenfeld left shortly after that. Brad Silberling took over the director's chair, and Handler's script was rewritten by Robert Gordon, who is the credited screenwriter on the movie. The movie, as solid as it is, is not the real Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. Louis Hynes, Malina Weissman and Neil ...

Matty Cardarople On Playing The Henchperson Of Indeterminate Gender In ‘lemony Snicket

... gender in ‘Lemony Snicket’. Matty Cardarople. Alexa Tietjen | WWD. If the art of acting had 10 commandments, perhaps the first would be “Know thyself.” Matty Cardarople has this down pat. In fact, he can identify the type of role he’s best suited for without hesitation: “I’m, like, born to play the clerk role, you know?”. “That’s me — the awkward clerk at a store,” Cardarople continues over the phone from Los Angeles, where he lives. “I love playing roles like that.” And so he seeks them out — the bartender in “20 th Century Women,” for example, or the gyrosphere operator in “Jurassic World,” which he says was one of Steven Spielberg ’s favorite characters in that film. His latest role is in Netflix’s “Lemony Snicket” series as the henchperson of indeterminate gender. He originally auditioned as the hook-handed man, but says director Barry Sonnenfeld, whom he ...

... Events’ on Netflix. That makes two back-to-back adaptations of YA sensations: “Unfortunate Events,” novelist Snicket’s hit series about the unlucky Baudelaire kiddies, and “Lightning Thief,” the first novel in Rick Riordan’s megaselling “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” about a teen who discovers he’s the son of the Greek god Poseidon. Both are also series that have received previous screen adaptations — “Unfortunate Events” in 2004 and “Lightning Thief” in 2010 — that never caught fire in the way the books did. “They’re both properties that had movie adaptations that didn’t capture what people loved about the books,” Tracz said. On stage, it’s take two for “Lightning Thief,” which Tracz and co-writer Rob Rokicki first wrote in 2014 as a one-hour musical for Theatre Works NYC’s free, all-ages theater ...
