Non-lsu Players 'put Louisiana On Our Back' At College All-star Game
... native passed over by major programs like LSU and others. “Anyone can play anywhere, man. It’s real good for the whole state of Louisiana. Us guys came here and put on and put Louisiana on our back.”. Smart, Taylor and Williams don’t play for Power 5 juggernauts or football powerhouses, and they weren’t five-star talents out of their respective Louisiana high schools (Williams at Madison Prep; Smart at Scotlandville; Taylor at Evangel Christian). But here they were, at the Senior Bowl, showing out, no matter their size. Smart was the smallest defensive tackle at the Senior Bowl, Taylor was the shortest player and Williams was the only player here from the SWAC. “I think it’s huge for us,” Taylor said. “Anybody coming from a smaller school, all you hear is you don’t play good competition and it doesn’t add up right with ...
Receivers Stand Out
... ability to high-point the ball. West Virginia corner Rasul Douglas does a great job of staying with the play though, and he’s able to knock the ball free from Jones at the last second. -AS. 1:07 P. M.: Watching the tight ends against the linebackers in coverage, and Tarrell Basham from Ohio gets a great pass breakup down the field against Jeremy Sprinkle on a corner route. Basham is an accomplished edge defender against both the run and the pass, but seeing him make a play in coverage is great for his versatility as well. - FD. 1:09 P. M.: Zay Jones is at it again. He just ran a beautiful stop-and-go-route and the double move leaves Iowa corner Desmond King in his wake. -AS. 1:10 P. M.: Eastern Washington receiver Cooper Kupp with a perfect spin move to beat Douglas on a red zone drill. Kupp has been talked about a lot by national media this week, and he’s backed it up with his play. I don’t know if I saw him drop a pass this week. Two minutes later, Kupp makes an excellent catch in the very back of the end zone, tapping his toes to score the touchdown. Kupp is fun to watch. –AS. 1:10 P. M.: Virginia Tech fullback Sam Rogers does a great job on two consecutive reps in ...
Nfl Eyes Four Linemen, Top Kicker
... (Lemont), Memphis kicker Jake Elliott (Lyons), Iowa defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson (Montini) and Michigan defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow (Marmion) — fared. The offensive linemen. Feeney started for the North team, which was coached by the Bears, on Saturday, but he cemented himself as one of the draft’s top guards during the practice week. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock wrote that Feeney is “in the conversation” to be the top interior lineman of the draft. Feeney also practiced at center. Iowa defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson (Montini) played in the Senior Bowl. (AP). Playing for coach John Fox was special for Feeney, a lifelong Bears fan who said he looked up to former center Roberto Garza. “It’s a humbling experience when you look back at it,” said Feeney, who’s 6-4, 304 pounds. ...
South Holds On For 16-15 Victory Over North
... pass, Gonzalez hit another field goal - this one from 38-yard field goal - to make it 16-9 after three quarters. That score held until the late touchdown and the South's final defensive stop. The South turned the ball over on three straight possessions to start the game, fumbles by Dayes and Reynolds and an interception thrown by Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs. On the latter, Dobbs was hit as he threw, with the ball landing in the hands of North team safety Lorenzo Jerome of Saint Francis. Jerome also forced the fumble by Reynolds on a reverse. He added an interception in the second half, meaning he accounted for three turnovers. Dobbs played well despite the turnovers, completing 12 of 15 passes for 104 yards. Reynolds led South receivers with six catches for 96 yards, while Dayes was the team's leading rusher with 66 yards on nine carries. Alabama's O. J. Howard caught four passes for 25 ...
Bears Coaches Believe They Had Productive Week At Senior Bowl
... — appreciated position coach Curtis Johnson's energy and personality, echoing what Bears receivers said throughout last season. "He's a funny guy," Jones said. "When it's football time, it's football time. But when it's away from football, he's fun. He's energetic. A great vibe. Positive man.". Jones fully extended to catch an overthrown pass from Peterman in the first half, and he appeared to contort both of his feet to get them in bounds for a touchdown. But the pass was ruled incomplete. Later, he adjusted to a 43-yard back-shoulder throw to catch a touchdown that was negated by a holding penalty. Jones' touchdown catch from Peterman on a slant with 1 minute, 51 seconds left pulled the North to within one point. But Peterman's desperation pass on the two-point try was deflected and intercepted. Ironically enough, the Bears' team lost despite taking the ball away five times. The Bears forced only 11 turnovers all season, tying the NFL record for fewest ever. California quarterback Davis Webb was named the game's most valuable player after completing 11 of 16 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. Toledo running back Kareem Hunt was named the North's most ...
Cal's Davis Webb Helps South Edge North 16-15
... on a touchdown drive late, moving downfield on connections of 21 - on a third-and-long play - and 13 yards before the touchdown. Game rules require teams to go for two points in the second quarter, and the South's attempt failed to keep the halftime lead at 6-3. AWARD WINNERS. Toledo running back Kareem Hunt ran for 118 yards on 15 carries to earn North Outstanding Player Honors. The South's honoree was Kansas State defensive end Jordan Willis, who forced two fumbles and had a pair of sacks. HEAVY TURNOVER. Senior Bowl Practice Recap And Game Primer
... prospect. I hadn't seen much of him before the Senior Bowl practices, but he really impressed me this week in Mobile. He's rock solid at the point of attack and has surprising athleticism for a 325 pound defensive linemen. He has the tendency to spin against the run when he gets caught in some traffic, but I think that's an issue that can be coached out of him. Vanderdoes and Grady Jarrett would be an excellent potential pairing of young, mean, athletic defensive tackles. Montravius Adams drew rave reviews at the Senior Bowl practices, but he wasn't very impressive to me. No one can doubt his ability to play against runs that are coming right in his direction. Where I still have an issue with him is when he needs to read and react to blocking schemes that force him to move and flow towards the ball down the line of scrimmage. We've seen ...
Rewinding The Reese's Senior Bowl
... with a fluttering pass by Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs. After N. C. State's Matt Dayes ran for 17 yards and Dobbs hit Grambling wide receiver Chad Williams for a 10-yard gain to get back in North territory, Dobbs' blockers were jammed back into the quarterback, causing his pass to go off-course. The North has the ball on its 28-yard line. 3:35 first quarter: Zane Gonzalez of Arizona State kicked a 22-yard field goal for the first points of the game as the North took a 3-0 lead. The field goal ended a 12-play, 58-yard drive that was derailed by a holding penalty against Western Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Moton on a snap from the South 1-yard line. Nate Peterman had a 14-yard pass to East Carolina wide receiver Zay Jones to get the North into the South's end of the field for the first time. Peterman also scrambled 7 yards for a first down, and Toledo running back Kadeem Hunt got the North to the South 1 with a nifty spin on a 12-yard run. But after the holding penalty and two runs, Peterman's throw to a wide-open Jones in the back of the end ...
How Local Prospects Fared At This Week’s Senior Bowl
... comes to setting the edge,” Galko said. “His ability to work through double teams was really impressive. That, combined with probably a strong combine, is going to put him in that top-40 discussion.”. 2. Connor Harris, 5-11, 241, ILB, Lindenwood. The Blue Springs South product entered the week with much to prove after an insanely-productive Division II career, and while he finished Saturday’s game with six tackles — tied for the second-most on the team — Galko said Harris left the week with some areas to work on. “I thought he struggled some in traffic against the run throughout the week,” said Galko, who added that Harris also needs to tighten up his pass coverage, particularly in space (even though he had a pick-6 on Tuesday). “His lack of great hip fluidity hurt him this week in practice,” Galko said. 3. Aarion Penton, 5-9 3/8 , 177, CB, Missouri. After a strong showing at the East-West Shrine Game last weekend, the St. Louis ...
