John Carroll Lynch On ‘the Founder’ And His Directorial Debut ‘lucky
... Lee Hancock’s The Founder opening this weekend in theaters, a few days ago I sat down with John Carroll Lynch who plays one of the Mc Donald brothers, for an exclusive video interview. During our wide-ranging conversation we talked about why the story hasn’t been told until now, shooting in 34 days, preparing to play a real person and what he learned in his research, working with Nick Offerman, what happens people recognize (or think they recognize) him, and more. In addition, he talked about his directorial debut Lucky which is about the spiritual journey of a 90 year old atheist that stars Harry Dean Stanton, David Lynch, Ed Begley Jr., Beth Grant, Tom Skerritt and Ron Livingston. If you’re not familiar with The Founder, written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan, The Wrestler) the film tells the true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick Mc Donald, who were running a burger operation in 1950 s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He then maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create ...
The Founder ’s Trumpian Parallels
... gets to speak a line! (Just the one, but you have to start somewhere.) And so, layer by layer, this dumbfounding movie devises its magical recipe, and dares us to resist it: ketchup, mustard, two slices of pickle, and hold the irony. Delicious. If there was a battle of the brothers, the Mc Donalds, being honorable citizens, wouldn’t last a minute against Kenny (Kevin Janssens) and Dave (Jeroen Perceval). These two unlovely fellows tramp through “The Ardennes,” getting caught in all manner of malignity. On the plus side, nobody invites them to enter the hamburger business, and for that we must be grateful. I don’t even want to think about how they would source the meat. Or mince it. One of the recent Belgian films to cause an international stir was the gloom-ridden “Bullhead” (2012), and “The Ardennes,” the first full-length feature by Robin Pront, is similarly aimed at an audience of fatalists. The atmosphere reeks of compulsive wrongness: “You don’t always get to choose,” one of the characters ...
The Founder’ Movie To Open Friday

Famed actor Michael Keaton, the film’s star, was spotted locally during filming along with director John Lee Hancock, who had previously directed “The Blind Side.”. Familiar downtown buildings such as Thrifttown and Arnall Grocery can be seen in movie trailers promoting the picture, most of which can be viewed on the film’s official website at __link__. Kroc was a salesman for milkshake machines who became interested in a small restaurant chain owned by the Mc Donald brothers, Richard and Maurice, whose rapid growth resulted in a large order for the machines. Kroc recognized the brothers’ concept of low prices and quick service was popular in the booming economy in the years following World War II, so he took a job with them marketing franchises across the country and eventually bought the chain, according to History __link__. “In those days, nobody had eight Multimixers in one business," Kroc was quoted saying ...

Founder’ Production Designer Had To Reproduce Mcdonald’s Iconic Golden Arches
... on e Bay turned up some blueprints of an original Golden Arches store, designed by original Fontana, Calif.,-based architect Stanley Clark Meston. Corenblith also discovered “a little museum associated with the brothers’ original restaurant in San Bernardino, which also had blueprints.”. But blueprints weren’t the last word. “As you begin to acquire more and more archival information, you find that everything you have conflicts with everything else you have,” he laughs. Fortunately, the still-existing Downey store was a convenient 45-minute drive from Los Angeles, so Corenblith, along with set decorator Susan Benjamin and costume designer Daniel Orlandi, made several early morning field trips to the venue to quietly make further study. “It was the second Golden Arches model ever built, after the first one in Phoenix,” Corenblith explains. Because it opened in 1953, it wasn’t part of Kroc’s purchase and therefore ...
Return Of Xander Cage' And More
... franchise surrounding the exploits of Xander Cage, extreme sports athlete turned NSA spy. This go-around, a presumed dead Cage is brought back into the fold by his handler (Jackson) to prevent another catastrophe involving satellites, a superweapon called Pandora's Box and terrible one-liners. The series wears its campiness on its sleeve, but that's not enough to reward two hours of your life. The verdict: Skip it. We'll get through these January duds soon enough. "Split" — James Mc Avoy, Haley Lu Richardson, Anya Taylor-Joy, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. After "The Sixth Sense," director M. Night Shyamalan was labelled the next Spielberg before languishing in a series commercial bombs. In recent years, he's scaled his budgets and has found great success with small, potent thrillers like "Split." This tale ...
The Founder' Director On Parallels Between Trump And Mcdonald's Kingpin Kroc
... TORONTO – When director John Lee Hancock started shooting “The Founder,” about how Ray Kroc built the Mc Donald’s empire from a small burger chain launched by two brothers, Donald Trump had not yet announced his candidacy for U. S. president. Parallels between the two real-estate moguls did not come to mind during production, he says. But that’s changed. With the film hitting theatres on Friday, the same day as the presidential inauguration, a plethora of articles have emerged comparing Trump and Kroc. Hancock says he now sees the links. “They’re both businessmen, both very aware of branding and the power of a branded name,” he said in a recent phone interview, adding that they both also tried to get “the masses to rise up with populist words.”. “I have to say that it was one of those things where through the lens I’m looking through now, I went, ‘Oh, I do see that comparison a little bit.'”. Michael Keaton ...
How The Founder Of Miss Jessie’s Hair-care Line Gets Everything Done
... like driving anymore and if I can avoid taking the train, I will. I probably get to the office around 11:30 or 12 and by that time, I’ve taken care of everything I have to do on a personal end and can see what’s going on in the office. On why she doesn’t stick to one kind of exercise. I dabble in a little bit of everything in fitness. If I’m into bike riding, then I’ll take a ride. Or I like to take walks. Typically I exercise in the morning for around an hour. I work in Tribeca, so sometimes I’ll walk home over the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridge. I like to switch it up. On why she makes it a point to go into her office as often as she can. Our staff is less than ten people. I’m old school and find that my presence in the office is very valuable. We communicate very well over internet and email, but I find that when I’m in the office, the morale is just how I like it. I like to show my face in the office even if it’s for an hour, but typically I like to spend at least ...
Weinstein Co. Serves Up 'the Founder' Amid Smaller Film Slate And Shift To Tv
... at the box office and a rapidly changing indie landscape. In an interview, Weinstein was alternately jovial, enthusiastic and defensive while also dispensing a decent amount of salty language. The producer-distributor is the same larger-than-life personality as he’s always been. But the company he runs with his brother, Bob, is changing by embracing streaming TV and cable programming as a component as important, if not more so, as its prestigious theatrical arm. “TV at this point of my career is more lucrative and a lot easier to do,” said Weinstein. “When you're making movies, you're walking the high wire.". He should know. Recent disappointments include the boxing drama “Hands of Stone” and the critically acclaimed “Sing Street.” “Your board is there to make money and sometimes I choose a little stubbornly not to make money,” said Weinstein. “I choose art over business.". But the drama “Lion” has been a bright spot, and continues to do respectable business with plans to go nationwide this month as it builds awards momentum. The theatrical business is “up and down like an EKG,” said ...
