John A . Logan College Board Approves Measure To Sell Bonds

... that the sale of the bonds was done without affecting the tax levy. Because the school refinanced a previous bond sale made in 2007, the newly issued bonds will not impact the tax levy on local residents. The restructuring added four more years onto a 20 year payment plan. “If there’s ever a good way to borrow money, this is it,” JALC President Ron House said after the meeting. Trustee Glenn Poshard said the sale of the bonds illustrates the tough times in higher education as well as in the state of Illinois. He said they may not have to spend the money they borrow, but one thing is certain. “It’s got to be there,” Poshard said. House said while this will help the school get by for now, it does little to affect change on the real issue. “This does not solve any budget problems,” House said. Before Tuesday’s meeting, Brad Mc Cormick, vice president of business services and college facilities for JALC, said the measure will allow J. P. Morgan to sell the bonds to investors. The funds will go into the school’s restrictive working cash fund. Investors are to be paid back after five years. Mc Cormick said the money in the ...

Gates is in the race for the right reason. He said he has no political aspirations beyond this board: He is seeking this office because he wants to give back to the community and believes his passion for education and skills would be an asset for LLCC. As an attorney, many of Gates’ clients have been local businesses who have shared the constant battle they face to find qualified employees, providing him with unique insight into how the college can meet those needs. KAYSVILLE — The Davis Applied Technology College   Board of Directors  approved a tuition increase of 5 cents per credit hour at its Thursday meeting. The increase of 2.4 percent would up tuition from the current rate of $2.05 per credit hour $2.10 per credit hour, effective fall 2018. The increase will go to the  Utah College of Applied Technology  board for final approval. Vice President of Administrative Services  Russ Galt said the college used to take a tiered approach to tuition and could ask for a separate, school-specific “Tier 2” tuition increase alongside “Tier 1” increases mandated by the UCAT system. Story continues under image. This year, each college within UCAT will just ask the system for their own tuition increases based on a school’s needs, Galt said. “We feel like it’s better to do incremental small increases than to have no increases for several years and then have huge increases,” he said. The approved tuition ...

Rock Valley College Board Approves 15 Percent Tuition Increase

... increase, tuition and fees at RVC remain among the lower third of all community colleges in the state. The average is $140 per credit hour. The total increase for a full-time student taking 15 credits per semester will be $450 a year. The increase comes as the college works to close funding gaps created by the loss of millions of dollars in state revenue. The college also faces about $1 million in new wage and benefit costs, as well as increases to day-to-day operational expenses. It recently laid off 28 faculty and implemented a new labor contract with support staff after declaring an impasse in negotiations. Fall registration opens April 12. Student Trustee Nathanael Webber cast an advisory vote against the increase saying it would be a hardship for students. He asked that the board explore ways to lower other costs — such as textbook expenses. While he doesn't support a tuition increase, Devon Pettigen, an RVC student and president of Rock Valley College Activists, said the increase isn't the problem. Office sought: Trustee Mc Henry County College. 1) What skills, qualities or experience do you possess that separate you from your opponents. I have had experience with MCC as a student, an adjunct fire service instructor for over two decades, and currently as a member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of Mc Henry County College Foundation Board. I believe all of these perspectives will allow me to serve the college with a more holistic view than that of my opponents. 2) What can Mc Henry County College do and what should it do to ease the property tax burden on homeowners. I don’t know that MCC can ease the property tax burden on homeowners, but MCC is trying to work within their tax levy and just reduced staff to stay within that framework. One of the best things the college can do is show the residents of the county what they’re getting for the tax dollars the college collects. No one likes to pay taxes but we all enjoy the ...
