Grayson Allen’s Teammates Like Him Just Fine

... basketball. Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports. Allen sat on a training table behind Jones with his left lower leg wrapped in ice packs and tape as he waited to head to the press conference with coach Mike Krzyzewski and sophomore Luke Kennard. Kennard has been Duke’s surprising superstar this season, a reliable constant in an inconsistent year. Several players have been injured, and the team struggled to find regularity in styles of play and lineups. But the most notable problem and the team’s largest distraction was Allen himself : The junior drew the ire of the nation for repeatedly tripping other players and then losing his cool on the sidelines. The kicking earned Allen a one-game team suspension and Coach K stripped Allen of his captaincy because of his inability to keep it together. Even that was a sentence many in the media (or with Twitter accounts and opinions) called lenient. “That’s why you come to Duke, to be the ...

... - also supports Duke’s cause. So does a No. 10 strength of schedule rating, which is two spots better than North Carolina’s, 22 spots better than Arizona’s and 39 spots better than Oregon’s. To be clear, I’m not predicting the selection committee will make Duke a No. 1 seed if it wins Saturday. I’m just strongly suggesting the selection committee should make Duke a No. 1 seed if it wins Saturday. Either way, the Blue Devils’ jump from ninth to fourth in the Top 25 (and one) pushed Kentucky down to No. 9, no fault of its own. Similarly, Notre Dame’s jump from 15 th to 11 th following Friday’s win over Florida State pushed West Virginia down to No. 14, no fault of its own. And Minnesota replaced Maryland. Richard Pitino’s Golden Gophers are now 26 th. The complete Top 25 (and one) is below. Biggest ...

Confident Notre Dame Ready For Duke In Acc Final

... to win on Notre Dame’s home court this season as part of a seven-game winning streak during the middle of league play. “Any time you lose to a team earlier in the season you want to get the chance to play them again,” Notre Dame guard Steve Vasturia said. “So it’s going to be another great game. Once again we are going to have to defend. They have four or five guys who can score off the dribble and shoot 3 s. We’re going to have to guard and come out like we have been.”. Brey said his Irish will do their best to defend Duke’s offense, which is among the most efficient in the country. But a high-scoring game appears to be in the making. “We got to score,” Brey said. “We’re going to have to score. You’re not stopping them. They’re a gifted offensive team. We’ve got to put numbers on the board. We’ve got to score more than 77 to win (Saturday). Hopefully, we can slow them up a little bit, but we’re going to ...

... a bone bruise in his right foot during a Jan. 7 win over Boston College. A fifth-year senior, Jefferson missed Duke’s next two games, including the loss at Florida State, and has played the last six weeks at less than 100 percent. Duke graduate forward Amile Jefferson talks about Duke's 75-70 win over No. 15 Florida State on Tuesday night. Jonathan Alexander __link__. Playing his final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Jefferson recorded his seventh double-double of the season and his first since producing 10 points and 12 rebounds when Duke blasted UNLV 94-55 on Dec. 10 in Las Vegas. “It was good to see Amile back healthier,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “That’s how he’s played most of the season and for the last few weeks. His foot, he hasn’t been able to practice. It’s limited him and ...

The Cards have won some solid road and neutral-court games this season, namely full-strength Indiana in Indianapolis and Wichita State in the Bahamas. But it would behoove Rick Pitino's team (and its NCAA tournament resume) to add a neutral-court win late in the season. Duke ranks 10 th in Jeff Sagarin's ratings, 14 th in the RPI and 15 th in Ken Pomeroy's efficiency rankings. Yes, U of L already beat Duke, but that was the KFC Yum Center. The Cards have won a lot of big games at home. ...

Duke Back Among Top Programs After Down Year
Duke Back Among Top Programs After Down Year

... games and advanced to the championship game before losing to four-time champion Notre Dame. "Last year was kind of a motivating factor for us — lesson learned," sophomore Faith Suggs said. "This year, watching everyone grow together is a really good thing, and hopefully we'll continue it in the next couple of years.". This Duke team is incrementally better than last year's in most of the lines on the stat sheet. The biggest difference is in turnovers, both gained and lost. These Blue Devils have turned it over 95 fewer times than last year while forcing 68 more from their opponents. The major reasons for that is the presence of guard Lexie Brown, who sat out last season after transferring from Maryland, and the maturation of six players who are now sophomores — chiefly Kyra Lambert, who started at point guard last season as a freshman. Those two have created what Mc Callie ...

... Stadium on February 28, 2017 in Durham, North Carolina. Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images. We usually do an All-DBR Team after the regular season. It’s just a list of the ACC players we most admire. Therefore it’s not by position or accomplishments or even limited by numbers. It’s just who we like. Here goes. Luke Kennard. Well, he’s really just about our favorite player in the conference. He’s just a baller, you know? We’ve been calling him Little Larry because he reminds us a bit of Larry Bird. Not that he has that kind of flash or that he’s that dominant, and Bird was one in a million, but he’s just got skills. He does things constantly that are off the charts. He’s not a freak passer like Bird but when you give him the ball, odds are he’s going to do something really good with it. London Perrantes. He’s been UVa’s glue for four years. He’s unflappable. He’s the perfect point guard for Virginia and we don’t know what they’ll do without him. He’s just a cool customer. John Collins. He had potential last ...

... John Collins. After the game, Collins said that “He’s a pretty strong undersized guy. A lot of energy and he fights. He fights hard. It’s definitely tough to stay with a high-energy guy like that (playing) on back-to-back days.”. Wake has come a long way but it’s going to have to play better defense to keep rising. For a good bit of the nightcap, Pitt hung with Virginia and looked incredibly impressive. But about halfway through the second half, things changed. For one, for the first time in our memory, Tony Bennett lost his cool. We’re sure he’s not like this in practice, but on the sideline he’s more like an emcee than a coach. He always looks wry and a bit above it, even when things aren’t going well. Not this time. For the first time, we saw a snarl, a bit of meanness. It was great. Tony Bennett lost his cool. He got it back of course, and Virginia regained ...
