... Arts District destination. It's a 14-hour party, noon to 2 a.m. Tom Bergin's is the official "The House of Irish Coffee" 'round these parts, but you don't need to have the warm beverage if you're in the mood for a brew. There shall be plenty of those, too, as well as "plenty of shenanigans" in the parking lot adjacent to the Fairfax gem. Prizes, DJs tunes, and more await. Molly Malone's, proudly founded in 1969, is just few blocks north of Tom Bergin's, on foot, near 6 th and Fairfax. Erin Go Bragh! And Then Some
... did he realize it would ultimately cost him his own special color. What is Ireland’s official symbol. When you think of Ireland, you usually think of green, the blarney stone or the shamrock. But the official symbol for Ireland is a heavenly, golden harp. As legend has it, confusion occurred when St. Patrick went to Connaught to meet two of King Laoghaire’s daughters, Ethne and Fedelm. After failing to convert the king, he prayed he’d do better with the two princesses. That’s when he used a shamrock to show how a single plant with three leaves is likened to the one Triune God with three separate and distinct Persons, and the shamrock became famous. And these last three notes. First, ‘Erin Go Bragh’ are not words an Englishman uses to tell an Irishman where to go. It’s an English corruption of the Irish phrase Éirinn go Brách. In the Irish language it means ‘Ireland Forever!’ ...

Five Irish Calgarians Worth Celebrating On St. Paddy's Day
... he came to Calgary to set up a trading post. He established the first dairy herd in the Calgary area and supplied the Mounties with fresh vegetables and buffalo meat. Construction of the Glenmore Dam in 1929 flooded part of the Livingston farm but a fish hatchery, a school and a government building have been named in his honour. Paddy Nolan. Perhaps the most colourful Irishman to make his mark on Calgary was Limerick-born Patrick James (Paddy) Nolan, a criminal defence lawyer in the city from the 1890 s onward. Nolan wrote for the Herald, campaigned for various politicians, and earned a reputation as the city's most popular amateur dramatist. His most infamous (and frequent) client was Caroline Fulham, also born of the Emerald Isle. "With Irish moss growing in her hair, and Irish belligerence in her fists, she must be Calgary's most notorious female citizen," Nolan once wrote. Alexander Calhoun. Born in Ontario to Irish immigrants, Alexander Calhoun had trained as a classical scholar and interned as a librarian when, in 1910, he answered an ad for a person to organize and run Alberta's first public library, in Calgary. There Is A Deadly Famine In America
... they find that He may turn His back on them, giving them over to their willful sin. Romans 1:18- 33. That happened in Amos’ times. If we continue to do that in this nation, we may get what we ask for, a society where the Bible is not proclaimed and where sin abounds without the Word confronting peoples’ consciences. When we neglect the Word as our moral conscience and compass, we drift, as a nation, into moral decadence and decay. In our private lives, we fall into spiritual apathy and sleep which will ultimately lead to a life without moorings that drifts on the sea of life. We have every opportunity in this nation to attend church, to practice our faith, to read and hear God’s Word and study it and be transformed by it. But to neglect it and the Lord is like having a smorgasbord of food in front of you and even though you are starving, not taking from it. It is crazy but deadly. We do have a famine in the land in many ways. My question to you today in the Lenten season is this. Are you an anorexic Christian or worse yet, have you failed even to taste and see that the Lord is good as the Bible says? If you said yes to either, it is time, way ...
