JEFFERSON CITY • A debate about “right-to-work” legislation in the Missouri Senate took a turn on Tuesday when Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, accused a fellow lawmaker of touching her inappropriately. Speaking on the Senate floor, she said that after a state of the judiciary speech Tuesday morning, Rep. Joshua Peters grabbed her arms in a “forceful embrace” that was “unwarranted and unwanted,” calling her “boo,” and later, “bitch.”. Peters, a St. Louis Democrat, flatly denied the allegations. “This is categorically false,” he told the Post-Dispatch. In a statement issued later, Peters said Chappelle-Nadal’s floor speech was a “vicious personal and politically motivated attack,” adding he would not rule ...

... tougher now. I think now there is really a new very good generation. So that's very important for me because that means that I am competitive and playing well.". STRAIGHTER PRIORITIES. Next up is Dimitrov. Once tipped as the young player most likely to challenge the established order, the Bulgarian has struggled to live up to those expectations and was hindered by off-court distractions. Friday will mark just his second grand slam semi-final but the 25-year-old feels that under new coach Daniel Vallverdu he now has the mental strength and attitude to match the game that prompted those expectations. "I have straighter priorities right now. I know what I want from myself as soon as I come to a tournament," he said. "I come on the court. I'm just happy to try to find a way, even if things are not going my way.". Things have indeed gone his way this year. Dimitrov is on a winning run of 10 matches that earned him the Brisbane International title and has taken him to the last four at the Australian Open. However, he ...

Nadal Breaks Fifth-set Hex With Confidence-building Win Over Zverev
Nadal Breaks Fifth-set Hex With Confidence-building Win Over Zverev

... five-set matches at the Grand Slams, he had come away the winner in 14 of them. But he had lost the last three. By the fourth set, Rafa himself had to admit that he had seen—and starred in—this four-hour movie one too many times before, and he wasn’t up for another tragic old-guy ending. He didn’t need any more meditations on the cruelty of age, and the inevitable decline of the great athlete. “I’ve been losing a lot of these five-setters,” Nadal said. “I said to myself, ‘Today’s the day.’”. As he had against Pouille, Nadal played his best when he was in catch-up mode. He may no longer be the closer he was once was, but he’s still a world-class chaser. Immediately after losing the third set, and watching Zverev leap across the court in celebration, Rafa dug in and broke serve. Now he was up 4-2 and struggling to protect that break; slowly but surely, Zverev had begun to creep back into the set. Rafa went down 0-15, before leveling at 15-15 with a strong crosscourt backhand. Then he went down 15-30, ...

... the stadium for a medical timeout, leaving Nadal to stay warm by jumping around at the side of the court playing an imaginary match, which he was also presumably dominating. Whatever Raonic had tweaked was given a workout upon resumption as Nadal sent him galloping around the court, but soon the Canadian recovered and set up two break points for the set. The response to that minor crisis was a classic Nadal rearguard: his first ace of the night, a minor rollicking of a ball kid, one curling forehand winner to save yet another set point, then a determined hold. If Raonic’s veins were bulging, his opponent’s nerves were imperceptible. The ensuing tiebreak produced 13 minutes of nerve-shredding tennis, though not for Nadal. Again he withstood three set points to take it 9-7 – at his first opportunity. Raonic had played some sublime tennis too, lobbing the veteran with perfection, but he lacked the cutting edge when it mattered. The third set was emblematic of that: Raonic ...

... of a grand slam. Nadal produced some inspired tennis to move within a match of the Australian Open final with a straight-sets win over Milos Raonic in their quarter-final on Rod Laver Arena. Nadal last won the title at Melbourne Park in 2009 but stayed on track for another crack with a 6-4 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 victory over the world No. 3 Canadian. ON BEING BACK TO HIS BEST. “I am not a very arrogant person so I always have doubts. So it is normal, even when I was winning a lot I had doubts, you can imagine I haven’t won and I have injuries. “But that is good I think, no, because when you have doubts you feel ready to work more.
