Travis Browne Puts To Bed Rumors He Left Coach Edmund Tarverdyan

... that ninth-ranked heavyweight Travis Browne had left Glendale Fighting Club and the tutelage of much maligned coach Edmund Tarverdyan. However, it turns out those rumors aren’t true. Recently, Browne went on ESPN’s 5 ive Rounds podcast where he categorically denied the rumors and reaffirmed his relationship with Tarverdyan. "He's still my coach," Browne said. "He comes out quite a bit. He comes out every week to help. The only difference is it's not in his gym. The man has a family, he has kids. It’s one of those things, to ask another man to come out for two-three months, you just can’t do that. So this camp he’s not as big a part as he has been previously but he is still part of this camp. “That’s all it was, that the location of my camp is different. When I was doing my whole camp in Los Angeles, Ricky Lundell would come out once a week, but he’s still my coach. So, it's the same thing, we're just doing it out here where I’m getting consistent work with the guys that I need to get done with. It’s just getting consistent work and having consistent bodies ...

Fighter On Fighter! Breaking Down ‘hapa

... six bouts and slipping down the rankings a bit. Still, all four of the men that beat Browne were former champions. This is a definite step back in competition, meaning Browne should have the chance to remind fight fans why he was once so highly viewed. Let’s take a closer look at “Hapa’s” skill set. While a part of the reason Browne has come up short recently is the tougher opposition, it’s also because he’s undergone a change. Browne began his mixed martial arts (MMA) career as an athletic specimen, relying on his instincts and doing what came natural to the physically gifted Hawaiian. Seeing as he won 10 straight fights in his first two years as a professional, it’s safe to say that worked pretty well. The coaches of Team Jackson-Winkeljohn played to Browne’s strengths, helping him add some technique to his game while allowing Browne to remain a unique athlete. Thanks to his athleticism and those expert coaches, Browne developed a style relying on movement and speed that capitalized on his lanky frame and huge power. It was never an ultra technical style, but it didn’t have to be, as Browne was ...

... against Shamil Abdurakhimov in his last fight, ‘Black Beast’ will no doubt want to make a statement against ‘Hapa.’ Although his main event clash with Browne has already been announced, Lewis reveals he hasn’t actually been granted entry to Canada yet. Citing his criminal record, the 31-year old Texas resident tells Ariel Helwani he hasn’t received an answer in regards to being allowed in to Canada. Lewis Fires Shots. Speaking during last night’s episode of  The MMA Hour , Lewis talked about potential visa issues, before digging at Browne’s past. “They haven’t actually told me if I can get in to Canada, because of my (criminal) record. I’ve never been to Canada before. I really would have liked to have fought on the pay-per-view card in Brooklyn, I haven’t fought on PPV yet. I believe (Travis) is a good fighter, he’s going to be one of my toughest opponents. He was looking him like I’m disrespecting him, calling to fight him.”. “I just wanted a real good fight, but ...

As Travis Browne's Downward Spiral Continues, A New Heavyweight Contender Emerges

... Jackson’s heralded gym to Glendale Fighting Club in Southern California, which was put on the map by Rousey’s success. His decline wasn’t an instantaneous thing. He won two of his first three bouts with his new team, finishing both Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione. Somewhere along the way, he and Rousey became an item. But the Mitrione fight was also a foul-plagued affair, one that started raising questions of whether Browne’s skills were regressing. He had already faltered during his lone loss in that stretch, failing to finish a fight he should have won against ex-training partner Andrei Arlovski and getting starched in a spectacular knockout. He looked equally bad in a loss to Cain Velasquez, getting finished late in the first round of their UFC 200 fight. A rematch against Werdum at UFC 203 was another decision loss in which he looked worse than the first time around. Browne’s trainer, Edmond Tarverdyan, has come under relentless criticism for Rousey’s performances in her past two fights, in which she was knocked out by Holm and finished in less than a minute by Amanda Nunes. While Browne isn’t about ...
