Ride The Wave Of Punisher's Unlikely Renaissance This Weekend At The Coolidge
... movies on film, Brookline’s Coolidge Corner Theatre is showing the first Punisher movie on the big screen this Saturday night at midnight. No, dude, not the one with Thomas Jane and John Travolta — the schlock fest from 1990 (the rest of the world got it a few months earlier in fall ’89) featuring none other than Dolph Fuckin’ Lundgren. That’s right, folks. The Punisher belongs to the same bizarre set of early ’90 s Marvel movies that only the super-dorks know about, like the Captain America movie that starred J. D. Salinger’s kid, or the unreleased Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie that was made simply so another one of its executive producers could hold on to the rights. You probably can guess the plot to this one: Frank Castle, a former policeman whose family was murdered by the mob, hunts down those who deserve punishment (like the Yakuza, duh) in totally righteous fashion. Meanwhile, the cops are on his tail and somehow Castle gets help from a homeless guy who he lures out of hiding by driving an RC truck with a bottle of booze sitting in its bed. You know, extracting the homeless for info 101. There’s not much more ...
Up To 100 Shots Fired Just Before Final Ciaa Game In Charlotte
... was related to any official CIAA-sanctioned event going on in uptown Charlotte, police said. However, this marks the third year in a row that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have been forced to contend with gun-related violence during the final weekend of the CIAA tournament. Last year, three men in town for the CIAA tournament were arrested after they fired dozens of bullets into two vehicles and an uptown hotel and were found in possession of an AK-47. No one was reported injured in that incident, which happened around 4:40 a.m. on a Sunday near the Hyatt Place hotel. The bullets hit a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a red SUV parked behind it in front of the hotel lobby. Two of the three men charged in the case were from Memphis and the third was from Elgin, S. C. In 2015, a woman was shot in the head but not seriously injured at the Label nightclub during tournament weekend. ...
Young Dolph & Yo Gotti Battle For The Heart Of Memphis Rap
... jealous of Dolph for years, sliding little sneak-disses into his songs. Dolph had been sick of Gotti, but he’d been laying off him, seeing as how they were from the same city and everything. But then he finally went nuclear. There’s a lot on the song about having sex with Gotti’s baby’s mother, and there’s even more about Gotti not properly representing Memphis: “You make the city look bad, and that’s the truth / Fuck nigga, I be in North Memphis more than you.” (Dolph is from South Memphis.) Gotti will doubtless have his own version of the story, and I imagine that we’ll hear it soon. And while we might not know the particulars, the story is an old one: two rappers, both at their peaks, coming from the same place, each convinced that he’s the man. If anything, it’s thrilling to hear one of them finally decide to stop throwing out subliminals and start naming names. Gotti is only four years older than Dolph, but the gap between the two feels vast and generational. A decade ago, Gotti was doing what Dolph is doing now: consistently cranking out solid street-music mixtapes and slowly building himself a national rep. Gotti has been releasing music since the ...
