Table 19
Table 19

... of The Office. So I was in the best of moods driving down to Mission Valley to watch this comedy. We pulled off the freeway on to Friars Road, to grab dinner before the film. Yet the main road was closed due to the flooding from the heavy storm that hit San Diego. We turned down one street, which brought us into a parking lot. There were about 100 cars waiting to get out, and nobody was moving. We parked there, and walked two miles to the Mexican restaurant. Yet to get there, we walked through a closed road. We saw a few dog walkers doing it, so we figured it wouldn’t be a problem. Well, we ended up in mud and sewage, and a few times, I almost fell on my ass. My shoes had to be thrown away, and we were both miserable. But hey…I wasn’t about to let this affect my movie going experience. After all, this stars the ...

... and connection are fleeting and shallow. They only ever talk about someone’s past or about how one of them feels. They never convey why these personalities are drawn to each other for any reason other than they are the losers. How boring. “Table 19” takes a while to even focus on the majority of its main characters, though. A lot of the film’s first third involves Eloise finding a potential love interest, a handsome wedding crasher who calls himself “Huck” (Thomas Cocquerel). Yet the film’s heavy setup for a new romance goes nowhere, and all we are left with is wasted screen time. The only two characters that do make a lasting impression are Jo and Walter. Jo is a sweetheart who finds herself lonely and unaccomplished in old age, and laments she hasn’t even left a mark on Francie and Teddy. Walter ...

Opens Friday at major theatres. 98 minutes. 14 A. Before I Fall might have been dismissed — and even forgiven — for falling into a Groundhog Day rut, since it deliberately goes in for a similar story of redemptive magic. Who expects much from movies such as these, especially one targeted at teens? Yet this one avoids tedium and exceeds expectations. Article Continued Below. At the risk of overstatement, a fairer film comparison might be Rashomon, for the many angles and perspectives Before I Fall provides on a single subject: a teen ...

... of the relationship also results in her losing the Maid of Honor spot in her ex’s wedding. Even better? Anna, who plays Eloise in the film, still decides to attend the wedding and ends up getting stuck at a table full of nobodies. In these EXCLUSIVE stills given to Hollywood __link__, we get to see Anna in action as Eloise, as well as many of her incredible co-stars including Lisa Kudrow and June Squibb. So cool. If you check out the gallery, you’ll see 8 brand new stills from Table 19. Another shows Lisa’s Bina Kepp hilariously dressed identical to the wait staff at the ceremony. Whoops. ... 19," it never fades and even gets worse as the labored wackiness gives way to trite sentimentality. The premise is to spend the course of a wedding reception with the people at the random table, or as they later explain, the pity invite people who should have RSVP'd "no." There's the unhappy married couple who sort of know the bride's father (Lisa Kudrow and Craig Robinson), the old undervalued nanny (June Squibb), the estranged family member who's had some trouble with the law (Stephen Merchant), the awkward teenager who's hoping to meet a girl (Tony Revolori), and, Eloise (Anna Kendrick), who gave up her maid of honor duties when the bride's brother, Teddy (Wyatt Russell), dumped her by text a few months prior to the wedding. How fun it might have been if these misfits had a modicum of comedic chemistry with one another, or actually seemed like real humans. Instead, they're all half-baked "types" as though they'd all just been tasked with executing a lame audience-suggested improv exercise right before the cameras started rolling. You know ...

... Blitz reached out to my label about me recording these songs and acting in the movie," he said of his first official big screen role, in which he plays, wait for it. the lead singer of a wedding band. "I hadn't really acted before, but I wasn't really nervous about it because my role was just to be a wedding singer, and I've been to my share of weddings and bar mitzvahs, so I kind of knew how to become that. I think I've played that role in my own life many times.". Because he's a professional, Oberhofer did deep research for the role, which basically consisted of watching the original music videos for songs like the The Cars ' "Shake It Up," T'Pau 's "Heart and Soul" and his absolute favorite, A Flock of Seagulls ' "Space Age Love Song," dozens and dozens of times. Born a decade after the dawn of MTV, Oberhofer said he'd never seen any of the clips before, so it wasn't the most stressful prep. Billboard spoke to Oberhofer about his experience and why ...

At This Wedding, The Laughs Never Register

... brother, Teddy (Wyatt Russell), hadn't dumped her a couple months earlier. Her table-mates run the gamut from family outcasts to distant friends: Walter (Stephen Merchant), a spacey ex-convict who tries to pass himself off as a "successful business"; Renzo (Tony Revolori, of The Grand Budapest Hotel), a fur-tie-wearing teenager who's trying to end his virginity; Bina and Jerry (Lisa Kudrow and Craig Robinson), a pair of diner-owners whose marriage is stuck in a rut; and Jo (June Squibb), a seemingly sweet-natured older woman who was once Teddy and the bride's nanny. There's little evidence in Table 19 that a looser, more improvisational approach to the reception, like Robert Altman's A Wedding or the ensemble raunch of Bridesmaids, would have yielded a better film, because the group chemistry is stilted so much of the time. But the surprise of Table 19 — especially coming from the Duplasses, who prize spontaneity — is how loudly the gears of the story clank away. Rather than see where the afternoon and evening takes them, the characters bail on the reception fairly early and wander around the resort, with ...
