... to name all the Super Bowl winners chronologically from memory. CREDIT: Getty Images. Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is set to meet with Rev. Jesse Jackson "in the near future" to discuss the company's diversity initiatives ahead of its looming expansion into Oakland. The meeting was confirmed Wednesday by an Uber spokeswoman. Over the last couple of years, Jackson has been putting public pressure on major tech firms to disclose the demographics of their workforces and make commitments to improve the hiring of minorities and women. Uber has been one of the most notable companies not to release these figures or make public its efforts to improve diversity. Jackson zeroed in on Uber in January. The civil rights leader gave the tech company a deadline of Feb. 15 to create a program and make a commitment to reflect the diverse demographics of Oakland. Uber has yet to release these figures, but the company has been in touch with ...

Uber's Travis Kalanick Apologises For Swearing At One Of His Drivers

... new drivers, and pumped money into new ventures like self-driving cars and takeaway food delivery arm Ubereats. This explains why big losses are amassing even as revenues continue to soar, from $1.1 bn (£890 m) in the second quarter to $1.7 bn (£1.4 bn) in the third. Elsewhere the company continues to wrangle with authorities around the world, most recently with the motor regulators in California over its trial of self-driving cars in San Francisco. The trial started last week – complete with witness reports of two cars jumping red lights – and provoked anger after it emerged that Uber had failed to get a licence from the Californian Department of Motor Vehicles. The state district attorney has demanded Uber take the cars off the road or face legal action, says  The Guardian. The company has insisted it is in a unique position compared to the 20 companies that have already obtained a licence for their autopilot vehicles because Uber's cars require a human operator to supervise each vehicle's movements. In this respect it claims to be more akin to Tesla's "autopilot" function, which does not require a ...

Travis Kalanick, Uber Ceo, Resigns From Trump Advisory Council Over Executive Order

... to Mr. Trump. Since taking office two weeks ago, however, Mr. Trump ’s conduct has spurred repeated calls for Mr. Kalanick and others to distance themselves from the president, particularly in light of last week’s executive order restricting entry to the United States for citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. “We must believe that the actions we take ultimately move the ball forward,” Mr. Kalanick told employees Thursday. “There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that.”. “The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and there’s a growing fear the U. S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants,” he added, calling an openness to refugees “an important part of our country’s success and quite honestly to Uber ‘s.”. Mr. Trump ’s advisory council met Friday at the White House as previously scheduled despite the sudden shakeup. “These are the biggest and ...

... we are, and who we actually are. Just Change - We must believe that the actions we take ultimately move the ball forward. There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that. The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and there's a growing fear the U. S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants. Immigration and openness to refugees is an important part of our country's success and quite honestly to Uber's. I am incredibly proud to work directly with people like Thuan and Emil, both of whom were refugees who came here to build a better life for themselves. I know it has been a tough week for many of you and your families, as well as many thousands of drivers whose stories are heartfelt and heart-wrenching. Please know, your questions and stories on Tuesday, along with what I heard from drivers, have ...

The Real Story Behind Uber Ceo
The Real Story Behind Uber Ceo

... voting power as common shares, while giving no voting rights to employee shares. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg followed suit, allowing him to maintain control as well, as did Snap in preparing for its IPO. These structures take power away from everyone but the founders. Uber's share structure isn't made public, but make no mistake: Kalanick completely controls Uber, including the board. Three of the board members, including Kalanick, are insiders, including another member of the infamous " A-team " (his like-minded - and exclusively male - colleagues). Another newer board member, Arianna Huffington, wants to help address the accusations of harassment, but I'm told she doesn't have real power on the board beyond a close relationship with Kalanick. I am not even sure if Uber's board, including venture capitalist Bill Gurley of Benchmark, can fire Kalanick. How the Internet helps money talk (about sexual harassment at Uber). But that's exactly what needs to happen: A fish rots from the head, and Uber's problems begin with Kalanick. Silicon Valley doesn't do self-reflection very well, but every ...

... to 17 percent of Facebook employees and 18 percent at Google. But lower numbers he cited for Twitter were inaccurate. There will be more information to come, he promised. Here is Kalanick’s memo in full. It’s been a tough 24 hours. I know the company is hurting, and understand everyone has been waiting for more information on where things stand and what actions we are going to take. First, Eric Holder, former US Attorney General under President Obama, and Tammy Albarran - both partners at the leading law firm Covington & Burling- will conduct an independent review into the specific issues relating to the work place environment raised by Susan Fowler, as well as diversity and inclusion at Uber more broadly. Joining them will be Arianna Huffington, who sits on Uber’s board, Liane Hornsey, our recently hired Chief Human Resources Officer, and Angela Padilla, our Associate General Counsel. I expect them to conduct this ...

... drivers, especially those who purchased more expensive vehicles when Uber was exclusively a luxury service. Kalanick later issued an apology and said he would seek leadership help , but not before the video featured prominently on major media outlets and made the rounds in online forums where Uber drivers gather to swap stories, complaints and advice. The comments did not simply pile criticism on Kalanick or Uber, however. For many, the driver wasn’t exactly blameless. “I better Never have a driver treat me like that!” one poster remarked. Others remarked that the way the driver spoke to Kalanick would be a fireable offense if it were any other passenger. “If I did that to anyone off the street, I wouldn’t be driving,” someone offered. To Twist, the driver was unprofessional but Kalanick should also have responded differently. “As the CEO and founder of such a large company, he is never really off duty,” he said. The video shows Kalanick riding in the back seat of an Uber black car with two companions. As he prepares to exit, the driver, Kamel, engages Kalanick in a conversation about the company’s business model and ...

Uber Ceo Predicts Humanoid Robots Will Deliver Pizza, Ai Chatbots To Be In Self-driving Cars

... Summit in Dubai, Travis Kalanick declared that his firm is "at the beginning of becoming a robotics" company as vehicles become autonomous. "Imagine now a car that is delivering food but doesn't have [a] driver. How do you get the food? You could come down and get it but if you have three kids … you want somebody to bring it up. And at some point there is going to be a humanoid that crawls up your stairs. and hands you your pizza," Kalanick said. The Uber boss spoke about the situation today when people are unable to find their driver. In this instance, users of the app call the driver to locate them. "But when the car doesn't have a driver who do I talk to? I'm going to talk to some AI agent or what they call a chatbot. I'm going to talk to an AI to get connected to that car," Kalanick forecasted. Uber has been investing heavily in self-driving cars and has partnered with automakers to bring these to market. But Kalanick is also heavily focused on the future. Uber recently hired Mark Moore, a 30-year NASA veteran, to head up the firm's flying car project. The start-up, ...

... president about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community,” Kalanick’s memo , obtained by Swisher, reads in part. “I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council. Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the president or his agenda, but unfortunately, it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that.”. I spent a lot of time thinking about this and mapping it to our values. There are a couple that are particularly relevant. Inside Out - The implicit assumption that Uber (or I) was somehow endorsing the administration’s agenda has created a perception-reality gap between who people think we are, and who we actually are. Just Change - We must believe that the actions we take ultimately move the ball forward. There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that.
