Ben Simmons' Foot Injury Reportedly Hasn't Fully Healed After Surgery

... during training camp, but a recent scan reportedly showed the rookie isn't ready to suit up yet. Citing a source, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey  reported that "a foot scan on Jan. 23 showed that his foot was not fully healed.". However, sources also told Pompey that Simmons will visit the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York next week to "determine if his right foot is fully healed.". Furthermore, Pompey wrote, "A source reiterated that the lack of full healing isn't a result of the on-court drills in which Simmons participates.". Sixers president Bryan Colangelo later  released a statement regarding Simmons’ injury. We continue to monitor the recovery of Ben’s injury and are employing a conservative and thoughtful approach to his rehabilitative program, basing his return to full basketball activity on the advice and direction of medical professionals. His next CT scan is scheduled for February 23, after which our medical ...

... against the Toronto Raptors at Wells Fargo Center. (Photo: Bill Streicher, USA TODAY Sports). 448 CONNECT TWEET 1 LINKEDIN 5 COMMENTEMAILMORE. Ben Simmons won't make his NBA debut this season. Simmons, who the Philadelphia 76 ers selected with the No. 1 overall pick in this summer's draft, underwent surgery to repair a broken foot in early October. He was expected to be cleared to play at some point this season, but 76 ers GM Bryan Colangelo announced Friday that Simmons will miss the remainder of the season after scans revealed his injury hasn't fully healed. "There was a desire to get him back on the court when healthy," Colangelo told the media in a press conference. "We've always anticipated that there would be an opportunity for him to play, hopefully this season. But there was always the outside chance that it didn't happen because there wasn't complete or full healing. We were not gonna put Ben Simmons in a situation where he was at risk ...

... Warriors on Monday, while he works his way back into game shape. The Sixers are targeting a March 3 return against the Knicks from what the team is calling a left knee contusion. "Honestly, I think I can play, but I'm not ready to play," Embiid said. "There was no swelling yesterday. This morning when I came in, there was a little bit. I just finished practice and I feel good, but there's still a little bit of swelling. I've got to manage that.". Embiid, who sat out the previous 11 contests, admitted he's not thrilled with the way the Sixers have managed updates with the injury, which he suffered Jan. 20. He has missed 14 of the last 15 games, playing only in the Jan. 27 nationally televised loss to the Rockets, yet the Sixers have consistently told the media and fans he'd be out only two contests at a time. "I was told I was going to kind of miss two or three weeks, so I wasn't happy with the way it was handled," Embiid said. "I thought keeping my name out there was going to literally have people think about me all the time ...

... of Jason Kidd in his prime, but in a much taller frame," Thorpe opined. "His overall playmaking skills project to be elite, too, which means that he can be a team's primary creator. "Thanks to his size and athleticism, coaches should expect him to be an all-league defensive player. If ever he learns to shoot, Simmons has MVP potential. If not, he is still a core player on a potentially great team.". The rankings were a composite of the three writers' own personal top 25 lists. The highest Embiid appeared was third, by Thorpe. The highest ranking for Simmons was fifth, also from Thorpe. Nerlens Noel appeared on only of the three lists, 23 rd by Elhassan. Jahlil Okafor was omitted by all three, while players like Cody Zeller, Willie Cauley-Stein, Bismack Biyombo and Dante Exum made at least one list. It says a lot about the national ...

I Can't Wait To Coach Him
I Can't Wait To Coach Him

... that people should read into that here he is, it’s not that. It’s slowly building him up very cautiously to a point where we can welcome him back legitimately to the team.”. The Sixers have kept Simmons engaged in multiple aspects of the game so he will be best prepared when he returns. They have been following a rehab program based on education, health and shot improvement. Simmons has been watching games from the bench and has been joining the team on some road trips since the start of the new year. “We’re drip feeding this slowly,” Brown said. “We’re very cautious, but I think it’s meticulous. I think it’s very, very well planned out so that when he does come back it’s not just hit with a bunch of new things. I feel like there’s a classroom, physical, skill thing that we’ve morphed into a really tight four months since he’s been out. We’ll walk it down, but it’s not like we’re going to be cramming a week ...

Are You Brave Enough To Publish Your Salary
Are You Brave Enough To Publish Your Salary

... different salaries. The fact of the matter is that some people cost more to hire than others. Maybe you have had to hire them away from a competitor where they were on a higher salary already. Perhaps someone has more experience and is more likely to be offered lucrative work elsewhere, and so therefore needs to be paid more to retain them. Perhaps your colleagues are less embarrassed to ask for a pay rise and have worked there longer, giving them more opportunities for a year-on-year rise. It creates an awkward mental hypocrisy where I either need to decide that I care less about equality than I like to think, or take the leap and be transparent about my salary and accept the consequences. These are not necessarily unfair, and you can argue that meritocracy should reward loyalty as well as your day-to-day activity. The point is that salary discrepancy should ...

Should 76ers Hold Out Rookie Ben Simmons Until Next Season
Should 76ers Hold Out Rookie Ben Simmons Until Next Season

... in New Orleans what his feeling was about the All-Star Game being moved out of his home arena, Walker said: “I hated it. I hated it. It sucks. I would have loved to have been at home in Charlotte. But unfortunately we can’t. Now we’re here in New Orleans, and I’m really excited just to achieve this accomplishment. But, yeah, it definitely sucks to not be in Charlotte.”. The weekend will provide a welcome bit of joy for Walker, who hasn’t shown much of that on the court lately. The Hornets (24-32) limp into the All-Star break having gone 1-10 over their past 11 games and would be out of the playoffs if they started today. Walker also has not been playing as well as he did early in the season, when he cemented his All-Star berth. But the weekend will nevertheless be a nice change of pace for him. Walker tabbed defending champion Klay Thompson as the front-runner for Saturday night’s 3-point contest and predicted that there will be little rim-protecting in the All-Star Game Sunday night. “Unless the game is close and it gets to the fourth quarter, I’m not sure there will be too much ...

Injured 76ers Rookie Ben Simmons Won't Play This Season

... 76 ers President Bryan Colangelo said. "It's not the way you want to start your career, but it happens. We're not excited about the news today. Ben is heartbroken.". The 6-foot-10, 250-pound Australian was Philadelphia's first No. 1 overall pick since Allen Iverson in 1996. Simmons was going to play point-forward. "Nothing has changed with the plan and the vision," Colangelo said. "The plan is to build and sustain a successful basketball program.". Colangelo also said star center Joel Embiid will miss at least four games because of a bruised left knee that has sidelined him for 11 of the last 12 games. "All signs are he is progressing well," Colangelo said. Embiid, the No. 3 overall pick in 2014, missed the first two seasons while recovering from foot surgery. The team traded big man Nerlens Noel, the sixth overall pick in 2013, to Dallas on Thursday for veteran center Andrew Bogut, young swingman Justin Anderson and a top-18 protected first-round draft pick. On Wednesday, the Sixers traded forward Ersan Ilyasova to Atlanta. Center Jahlil Okafor, the No. 3 pick in 2015, is ...

How Will Ben Simmons Compare To Rubio
How Will Ben Simmons Compare To Rubio

... Ricky Rubio. Rubio, at least, is a long, effective defender. There are major questions about Simmons' defense, shooting and competitiveness." -Alan Reder. Usually, this gets phrased as "6-foot-10 Rajon Rondo " - which I think would be an awfully good player, assuming we're talking prime Rondo - but we can take this version, too. Something I think is often lost in the Rubio discussion is that he's not just a poor outside shooter, but also a poor finisher. Per __link__ , he's shot 47.6 percent career inside three feet. Simmons needs to improve his left hand around the basket - odd for a player who's ostensibly left-handed - but I would be stunned if someone 6-foot-10 with his athleticism didn't do substantially better. That should make Simmons a more-efficient scorer and open up more passing lanes for him. Additionally, while I'd be surprised if Simmons is as good defensively as Rubio relative to his position, he may well prove a better defender absent that ...
