The Tesla Network Ridesharing Platform Is A Bigger Opportunity Than Selling Cars
The Tesla Network Ridesharing Platform Is A Bigger Opportunity Than Selling Cars

... new Master Plan, Musk's answer to Jonas became much clearer. Selling 500,000 self-driving Tesla's to Uber is enticing from a surface-level sales perspective, but omits the bigger picture. Offering the Tesla Network as a stand alone app will allow Tesla offer transportation services to a whole new subset of customers that don't have the capital to buy a car outright. Perhaps Elon's biggest innovation surrounding the Tesla Network is that it will be a revenue opportunity for its customers. If a Model 3 owner rents out his car for an average of six hours per day while they are at work, that would result in 1,800 hours of driving annually (assuming 300 work days). Even with net revenue of just $5 per hour, that would result in $9,000 in income for a Model 3 owner in just one year. With a projected sticker price of $35,000, that's more than 25% of the total cost of the car. Tesla Puts Its Foot Down. He wooed Uber after it was threatened with legal action if it continued conducting its self-driving tests in San Francisco without appropriate permits, such as the ones being used by Alphabet Inc. ( GOOG ) subsidiary Google and major car manufacturers in their tests. The ride-sharing company had argued that it did not need a special permit for its tests since they fell into a different category, similar to the ones being conducted by Tesla, Inc. ( TSLA ). (See also: Tesla Rolls Out Enhanced Autopilot Update. ). Governor Ducey published a statement in which he stated that California had "put the brakes on innovation and change with more bureaucracy and regulation." He wrote, "Arizona welcomes Uber self-driving cars with open arms and wide open roads." The state does not require special permits for self-driving tests. This is the second such deployment of Uber's fleet of self-driving vehicles. The San Francisco-based startup launched its self-driving tests in Pittsburgh last September. (See ...

... trade-in values to incentivize upgrades and goose Model S/X demand. It should be noticed that this is deferred in time (the CPO car takes time to be sold, and only when sold is the loss from the high trade-in value recognized), so some of the impact would already come from Q 3 2016. What did not hit gross margins was a drop in production. Tesla kept Q 4 2016 production close to Q 3 2016 levels, and it accrued new car inventories as a result. This permits fixed-cost dilution to remain high. However, if Tesla is forced to lower production so as not to continue increasing inventories, such would have a negative gross margin impact. There was a large increase in basic shares outstanding to 155 million shares as a result of the Solar City acquisition. However, this number of shares is an ...

... even an actual car yet. Our short play is this. Nowhere to run on that one as it's a March spread, we need TSLA to disappoint tonight or it's an expensive one for us. If all goes well, this currently net $2,163 spread will return $7,500 for a quick $5,337 (246%) return on cash - nice work if you can get it. Speaking of getting it, we got it good this morning with a nice dip on Oil Futures (/CLJ 7) and we took the money and ran at $53.50 with a $620 per contract gain from yesterday's remaining plays in our Live Member Chat Room. Just this morning, while oil was still just under $54, I said to our Members. Oil has been on a wild ride but back under $54 at the moment (/CLJ 7) and the Dollar is no stronger (101.50) than it was yesterday so that's not to blame. Hopefully we'll get a proper breakdown. There's nothing better than making a quick $500+ on each short contract before the market even opens. We're actually ready to go bullish on oil into the summer but it's way too early for $55, or even $54, so we're still taking some quick shorts when ...

... 2015 10-K filing , the company was over 107,000 deliveries at the end of that year. More than 76,000 vehicles were sent to customers in 2016, and I believe the final number will be revised higher at the earnings report since it usually is. Tesla also had several thousand units in transit at the end of Q 4, and sites like Inside EVs and Tesla Motors Club show at least another 3-4 k units were delivered to the US and Europe in January. That doesn't include Asia, and it doesn't include the first week or two of this month, so Tesla should be somewhere around 190,000 or perhaps even over. All of this is funny because Elon Musk and his supporters like to brag about how well Tesla is doing. Yet, it seems from this presentation that the company is using numbers that are weeks, if not months, out of date. If you want to show the company's growth progress and alleviate concerns about the ...

... Revolutionize the Modern World.). One could, of course, argue that going up might be cheaper and less time consuming. But Musk says that flying cars, which are being championed by Alphabet Inc. ( GOOGL ) chairman Larry Page, are a "dumb idea" because they are not scalable and require enormous downward force to keep them in the air. The latter translates into wind, noise and debris for those on the ground. (See also: How Flying Cars Could Land in Your Portflolio.). Instead, Musk's immediate aim is to build a fast and cheap tunneling machine. According to him, tunneling costs a billion dollars a mile and takes enormous time and effort. As an example, he cites the City of Los Angeles' extension of its subway line, which will cost $2.4 billion for an extension of 2.6 miles and take approximately 10 years. Musk wants to develop tunneling machines that make it possible to drill a mile a week. He plans to do this by accomplishing three tasks: feeding the machine with more power, constructing it with ...

How High Before Bears Capitulate

... stocks and indices all reversing exactly at this measurement. Once the pullback is complete, the expectation is for one final rally in wave 5 to the target just above $300. This is just what a "normal" cycle of buying would look like. There are of course many variations, but it would be unusual to deviate much from this. Depending on your timeframe and thesis, there are a number of ways to approach the above information. Bears with a long-term outlook could short or buy long dated puts at market. A new high is likely at some point, but this should lead to a much larger reversal back below $200. Bulls with a long-term outlook should target at least $300. Watch $269 carefully - price should hold here if the stock is to keep its momentum. Bears with a short-term outlook should most probably wait for a move above $300 before trying shorts. This is my personal approach. Bulls with a short term approach can try to buy $269 for a move over $300. I may try this too. As you can see, I have no bias. There are many valid arguments on both bull and bear sides, and I prefer not to get involved. Our ...
